Vancouver coast/Island is not ready for the Big One... and why would we be?
Not to sound all bah hum bug etc, but this coast line will not survive that kind of mass destruction. People ask me more often recently, if I have an emergency kit, and I always reply. NO. (I do for small emergencies, not global ones)
The chances of any of actually being home and within reach of emergency supplies, will be next to none. I'll probably be on the train somewhere commuting to/from work or social event. It bothers me that our gov't encourages us to be ready, have shoes beside your bed etc.. as predicting the big one will happen when we're all nuzzled and tucked into our warm beds and within arms reach of some emergency supplies.
I'm sorry but reality isn't like that. I mean it's great to have a kit around for black outs, snow storms, etc but the Big One? None of that stuff is going to help you.
People say, they should move somewhere else etc til it passes. Think about it? What good will that really do? You move from one area that is known for sitting on an fault line and surrounded by dormant volcano's to moving to hurricane valley? There is a natural disaster waiting no matter where you live. You learn to adapt and prepare yourself the best you can for living in whatever area you're in.
Yes, the Earth if unhappy with us and the way we've treated her. Fair enough. I just want to gov't/media to stop implying we can stop it from happening. We can not. We will not. Just like our life cycle has a beginning and an end, so does the planet we inhabit.
I'm not saying you should go jump off a bridge or anything or should be sulking in a woes me the world is going to end.... But we should all be embracing everything this planet has to offer us until it's becomes too late. The good, the bad, the ugly.
I guess the short of this post I've meant to say, do not take anything for granted. Your life, your loved ones, your friends, your job etc. Tell everyone you care about that you care/love/like them...often. I wouldn't want to leave this world leaving anyone unsure how I felt about them.
Live a rich live folks, it's the only one you have. Make the best of it.

Good sentiments. I'm lucky that I live in a fairly stable area. I don't get much bad weather or any earthquakes. A lot has been happening lately with weather and natural disasters. It does make you think. You didn't get hit with any of the Tsnaumi fallout; did you? Take care.
ReplyDeleteBothered... NO we didn't get affected by it, but small areas of Vancouver Island got some increased water levels but nothing to be concerned about.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the Oreagan Coast got hit with a few meters of higher water, one man lost his life. Just standing int he wrong place at the wrong time.
AMEN SISTAH!!
ReplyDeleteYou said it! I always make sure that the LAST thing my family hears when dropping off, leaving, going to sleep, etc is "I LOVE YOU"! Cuz, like you said, What If Tomorrow Never Comes?
I don't dwell on it, but I don't take it for granted either.
Well said! Living here in Quake country, it's in the back of our minds with the little tremors we have every day, and nudged when we have a sizeable shake like a few months ago and go into "oh shi$" mode when a big one hits another place with faults like ours. You're right, it's likely to occur and catch us off guard and away from either the home OR car emergency kit. You can't dwell, but just be aware of things to come no matter where you live.
ReplyDeleteI think you should go watch some Disney movies.
ReplyDeleteAnd maybe WE can't stop every bad thing from happening, but we have Charlie Sheen. Humanity's best hope.
Duh.
CALEB- oops stupid caps...
ReplyDeleteDisney moives eh.... okay.
Hangover - Dwell!! That was the word I was looking for. Can not dwell on it or make it the centre of everything.. Shit will happen and we will adjust.
I completely agree - I think our problem is we don't know what to do afterwards with regards to calm/order. Yes I'm almost completely guaranteed to not be at home and subsequently even less likely to be able to get home when the "big one" happens.
ReplyDeleteI was in lecture the last time we had a quake and realized that it's going to be what it will be.
