Pancakes infused with Bacon & Eggs on top!!!!

That is not what this entry is about, but it is what I'm making for dinner! lol Nom nom nom.

I have a bit of writers block, sort of.
I have a few topics I want to touch on, but none of which will make up a whole entry.
Combined it's just gibberish. (really not different from most of my entries).

The media, self esteem, and shopping posts seem to be a hit. But if we discuss it too long, we'll lose focus of ourselves and become victim to it. More than some of us already are. (aka ME).

I find it hard to write about anything if I'm not feeling the heat of the moment as it were.

I guess I'll just accept the funk I'm in and it will pass faster. I give myself permission to be a cow til Monday.
After that, I'll fake it til I believe it. Being a Bitter Betty does not suit me.

Til then.....Happy blogging.

The Media squashed my Self Esteem!

Advice from A Single Girl wrote a entry on Ageism.
And although this post wont be about the same thing, it will hit on similar topics. The media.

Go read her entry, and the comments to follow, it will only take a minute. I'll wait.

...Okay, so you're up to date where this is heading.
I've been fighting a funk of woes is me about an ex recently. He calls from time to time and I usually don't take the calls, cos his intentions are never honourable.  He called recently and I've wanted so badly to talk to him. But for all the wrong reasons. I'm lonely and I miss him. Must-not-return-the-call.
I caved. I called him. But this is where the funk gets a little deeper. He never returned the call. Hmph.

Seriously?  We could be in an all out war with each other and he could have a g/f at the time, he-always-calls-back. Or a quick text to say he's camping, out of town etc, and will call me back soon etc. Nothing.
Zip, Nadda.  Now I'm mad, sad and lonely. Great combo.

While I cleaned my apartment in a huff to work it out, I decided to just let the funk be and embrace it so it could pass faster. Turned on the TV. First of all, that was the biggest mistake of the day.

The was a documentary called Plastic.
UBC did a study of who is found more attractive cos of their symmetry. Those who were found more attractive, made more money, lived longer, had better marriages etc.
Those who were not deemed as good looking were had their pictures judged by survey takers by random people on the street and were asked to give a reason as to why that person was less attractive than the other pictures. My first thought was... "Does this mean all model are geniuses in disguise? If so, we're all screwed!"

That is until they targeted overweight people.

People who are viewed as fit, slim, in shape, etc had appeal of attraction.
They must be healthy, mentally, financially, educated, made more money, more creditable, reliable, stable etc.

Those who were viewed as overweight ,obese, or had a non symmetrical breasts, shorter leg, lazy eye, bad teeth etc were viewed as lazy, less worthy, less secure, less creditable, uneducated, unhealthy, and less financially secure.

However, if you were seen as attractive but then had a flaw like a chipped tooth, you were instantly put into the other category.  There was the one person who said  so and so is less attractive, but this is just a picture, and unless I know them personally it's unfair to discriminate them for any flaws.
Someone marry that man asap!

What a way to fuck with someones self esteem and worth. Because the media said so.

I'm a big girl. I won't be forever. I've been secure with that and it shows.
Watching this show sucked whatever self esteem and worth I was feeling yesterday right out the fucking window.  Now I'm feeling bad about myself and need a little reinsurance that I'm worthy of being desired, loved etc. I called the ex. Add feeling rejected with no return call to the worthlessness ingrained into my brain thanks to the media and I wonder, wow, how is it I don't run out and kill myself now?

As a result, I ordered KFC last night. Shut up, don't judge me.
Cried on/off all night, cos this stupid show played on my already vulnerability of feeling lonely.  To top it off, I finished the night off watching Bowling for Columbine. Add heart ache and madness to all the above,  I'm a blubbering mess.

I always look at people and wonder, how they got to where they are. They may be larger than me, and even look sloppy. That doesn't mean that that person isn't capable of making more money than I. Maybe they do. Or could even be a member of Mensa International. Who am I to make judgement without knowing them.
We're all guilty of it. It's a work in progress.

The media seriously needs to stop fucking with peoples minds.
How does anyone outside the medical fields benefit from knowing any of this?
Well even the university's who do these studies and experiments, need to stop publishing them.

You're born a certain body type, intelligence, handicap etc. You can not control your DNA in the womb, so why does the media feel the need to say.. Hey you're not 100% symmetrical, therefore you're not as good as another.

What happened to those Dove commercials?
The ones that empowered women and young girls of all shapes and sizes to love themselves and the skin they are in?

This could go on and on and on.... but you get my point.

The media is evil.

Jean Shopping.... oh kill me now.

Single and Picky commented on my last entry about where to find jeans.

As I'm typing away on my reply to her, I found myself deciding this should be a new entry.... more so cos I got carried away. So here we go.

I usually shop for my jeans at Reitmans, $36 - $70.
They have a petite plus section that does NOT have flowers and bedazzle shit all over their clothes.
I've always wondered why plus size stores do that? Draw more attention to the fact I'm girthy??? Lame.

When I was size 16 and below, I LOVED the Gaps boot but jeans in petite. About $90 but so worth it.

Another friend swears by Lee's Jeans. She wrote a blog about being short and girthy etc, finding jeans to be attractive and fit over her mum belly, and still be age appropriate and stylish etc.
A PR Rep for Lee's Jeans contacted her, then sent her a few pair to try out, and write a review.
She LOVES THEM. Well two of the three pairs. And although they sent their petite size to her, she still had to get them hemmed a little. But regardless she loves them and spends her money on them.

I have a round ass, booty, junk in the trunk. Call it whatever you want, but no matter what my weight is, I have a round ample ass and curves. So searching the perfect jeans can result in a lot of bitching and feeling horrible about yourself cos the sizing of some of these jeans I swear to gawd were fitted on a child, not a real plus size woman. Add being short, its a whole other ball game.

Ya I watch What Not To Wear, and I have learned a bit from the fabulous Stacy and handsome Clinton.
However, I do not live in New York City, I live in Vancouver and being plus size, its fairly limited to where I can shop for pants.

I know of three stores that are reasonably affordable for most people.
Reitmans, Additional Elle, Penningtons.
Down fall of that, they all carry the exact same stuff!!! Fail.  Additional Elle is advertised as a high end plus store. It's not. They just hike up the prices for the same items that are carried elsewhere with a different tag on it.   I work in fashion, (no I'm not a designer) but I am behind the scenes, and see the results of our trips to Europe for sample buying, and what we do it afterwards. It's all the same stuff.

Hey Designers!!!
Please design plus size jeans using plus woman. And not the women who are 6 feet and a size 10, that is not a plus size, that is just proportionate for their height and weight. Preferably not in traditional sizes but by waist and length. Life would be grand.

Not sizing out a 16 then adding 2 inches to every size moving forward. That is not the reality of real women's body types or shapes. And please please please bring back a lighter colour denim. Ya ya we know dark denim is flattering, but it also limits our options for pants to wear and different looks if everything pass a size 14 is dark. Plus size women want variety too. Who knew?

You already do that you say?
Well maybe, but not past a size 14. Oh and while you're at it, cos we have girthy thighs, please re-enforce the thigh part of the jeans to last more than a few months of regular wear. Love SJD. aka, Just Saying.

Remind me again when being any double digit in clothing became a plus size and then to add insult to injury, became a crime.  I understand that designers love to use 00 size models cos the clothes fall better with fabrics etc. However realistically, the real women out there range in many many sizes, and most of us can not afford to spend $170 for a pair of pants even though they will fit properly.
I will pay up to $100 for jeans if they last, fit, etc..

Places to shop for Jeans or dress pants for plus size women.
Reitmans.
The Gap.
Lee's.
Forever 21 (if you can find your size).
Cleo's (petite store for 5'4 and under)- Although I don't think many exist anymore.

Now bra's on the other hand. This is a task hard enough that I'm usually short of throwing myself on the ground, kicking, screaming and crying. Bra's are ugly. They're more like armour than a sexy piece of under clothing to support our puppies from being all jiggly. We want lift, solid support and pretty fabrics and colours. Black, White, Nude, are all fine for the basics.  In addition to feeling like rocks stars that we are, we also like to feel like women with sex appeal when we put on our under garments.

Where can you find a PRETTY bra that has FULL SUPPORT for well endowed and/or plus size women.

If anyone out there can recommend where to shop for great quality bras and jeans in a plus size, hit me up!
I want to hear from you.

For the record these are my stats:
Height - 5'2 (American or oversea readers will have to convert this yourself into cm).
Bra - 40DD
Pants - size 18
Tops -  L, XL
Shoes & Boots -  7.5-8
Weight -  just shy of 200 lbs. (Again convert into stones or kg).
Surprisingly I carry it really well for my size, thank gawd for curves to proportion it all.

Rumours = Job search update....sort of.

The other day I wrote Rumours = Possible Job Search.  The very next day a company wide email from the head office is sent out as a friendly reminder to everyone the following email. - paraphrasing here.

The email basically said as we become accustom to our gadgets and devices, it is to be reminded not to ever assume our the information we're sending or receiving from the work or work related devices are private.  Personal or professional. Ever. The company reserves the right to intercept, retrieve and review any message or files composed, sent, received or stored on the company’s computer systems or with its hardware. It should be noted that although a message or file has been deleted or erased it is still possible to recreate the message.

So you know where I'm writing this email from, right?  Work computer. Yup. I'm a bad ass.
Although the chances the things I write being of any interest to those who made be monitoring my updates. are slim.  They are personal and sometimes about the Bargle Company I work for. However I do change and protect all names of those innocent and/or guilty.  I'm not that stupid.

I'm sure one has nothing to do with the other, but find it very coincidence that this memo was sent out the day after I wrote about rumours. My opinion about the rumours are solely mine and not the opinions of the company as a whole.  Just saying.

The memo also went on about not sharing confidential information about the company in emails, PDA's etc.

So now you're up to date. Although for my own safety I'll probably post anything work related from my home computer, just to be safe. Period.  Can you say PARANOID?!!

Ok now that that is out of the way...(Can I use "that that" in a sentence? Caleb- grammar police, can you confirm please?) Okay back on track... Winter is around the corner and I'm really not prepared.
I need the following items in my wardrobe asap in order to survive this season October - February, and looks some what professional still while commuting by transit to and from everywhere.

*Pea Coat Jacket - in white or dark red. (no greys or blacks this year)
*New Ski Jacket - Burgundy or Black for those really bad snowy days.
*Rain boots - Hunter Boots (my favorite wellies) only come in a calf circumference of 16".. know how small that is? So I"m still on the hunt for good quality rain boots that will not only fit my "apparently" fat calf's, and be able to stuff jeans into them too.
* New Jeans, bras and panties - well just because.
*Flat foot ware that is warm and durable but not a snow boot. (already have those)
*Knee high winter boots - light brown maybe?

I'm sure I'm forgetting some items... I have the scarfs, gloves, and girlie toques all ready to go.
Any suggestions as to what else I may need? Please remember I'm a plus size gal (size 18) so my pieces are not easy to find with a quick trip to the mall. They also must have multi purposes.

Once I have those things, then I'll be ready. But with my luck, it will snow tomorrow or something.

Real Men.... Is there another kind?

I've been hearing the term "real men" thrown around, a lot, by women AND men.

Went to the pub last week with some friends in town, who happen to be mostly sailors. Female and man alike. The term "real men" was passing by my ears like every second conversation.  Even with the random men I met later in the night and had great conversations with.

"Real men" would kiss you like this, would say this or that, real men are not afraid to cry, or dance, or admit they're wrong. (Whoa, what?)

At first I laughed a little, cos really is there another type of man?
Oh wait, there are the man-childs of the world. But alas they are still men.

What I've been able to decipher, is that men view other men like women do to each other.  And the term "real men" is more the new name for saying more and more men are stepping up and being more comfortable in their own skin.  Ya I know, men have self esteem and body issues just as women do, if not more. Ego's I tell ya, geez. j/k.

Having to announce you're a real man, just reconfirms the lack of quality men (available or not) out there.
I blame the lack of men being men and all that other chivalry stuff on; online dating, msn, twitter, texting, facebook and anything that allows you to only speak in 140 characters, all making the world too much of a casual thing.

So if that is the way it's going to be, then I'll take a "Real Man" who feels the need to announce he's a real man, compared to whats been forth coming.

So attention to all the lazy, man-children, with no manners (even the most basic) and attention spans of a nat... Step up your game, cos we women have had our fun of being silly and casual and we're not impressed or amused any longer.

We once again want real men, who open doors, (cars and buildings alike), pay for dinner from time to time, don't cry on first dates, do not bitch at us for not putting out on a first date (even if we are both adults), walk curb side on a sidewalk, don't bad mouth the ex's, or discuss your favorite sexual positions before becoming intimate, call us in advance for dates(not an hour before you want to see us) and wait for us to be inside our apartment/houses before driving away.

I use to think chivalrous men only existed in men with money, or already had wives. I learning I was wrong.
I think this is hope for me after all.

The Chivalrous Men are making a come back! ... can I get a woot woot!

Hello singlehood,  it's been nice knowing you, but I wont miss you when you're gone. I hope you understand.

Rumours = Possible Job searching in my future??

I work for a company owned by a much larger American one. They bought us 5 years ago from the current president, with a contract that they keep him as the president for 5 years. At which time they could choose not to renew his position....here.

There has been rumours running amuck in the last year within the company, solely based on odd hirings and behaviours, and more so recently (today) I've received a few phone calls, and one walk in enquiring about very specific things that would lead anyone to believe that things in this company are about to change come Jan 1.11.

Here is what we know:
If the American bargle company chooses not to renew the P's contract, we could all be out of a job come the new year. This is due to the fact that all the other companies owned by this larger one, are American.
All our accounting teams are in NY,  There is only myself and a few others than deal with any kind of accounting from Canada. That being said, there is absolutely no reason for them to keep a CDN rep.

Last year the big P hired someone to work in his office on a laptop behind closed doors from a separate browser than the rest of the company. Not even HR knew what his roll was here. When asked, all he could say was that is was classified. (super nice guy - dating one of the bosses young daughters- yay nepotism!) Nice way to say "none of your business".
That same person is no longer doing that particular job, but has been "created" a position in the company that has a very valid use.

That valid use, could also eliminate the amount of reps we currently use, hence less need for some of the employees we have.

The phone calls.
Me: Answering the phone in my usual spiel.
Caller: I'm calling to see if you've relocated yet?
Me: I"m sorry, where are you calling from?
Caller: A Realtors office.
Me: Were you under the impression we were moving?
Caller: Yes, I called a few months ago and was advised that some changes may be forth coming and your current building will be available for leasing.
Me: (in my head- ummmmmm) Do you recall who you were speaking with?
Caller: No, a man, I can not remember his name.
Me: If you remember who you were speaking with, please call again and I'll connect you to that person.
Until then I can not answer any questions.
Caller: Oh ok. Thanks.
(exchanged pleasantries and hung up)

A similar one called a few hours later.

The Walk In.
Not 15 minutes later I get a walk in from a scout locator. This however is not unusual since our building rocks and we allow filming for Disney Movies, Kit Kat Commercials and more etc..
The odd part was she wasn't interested in a walk around. She had a specific request that makes the above phone call and the rumours all come to life.

She wanted to rent warehouse space from us cos she was advised that we may have some space opening up. I told her she was misinformed and there was no space available. (we just closed a warehouse and moved all its contents here, plus we just upgraded the shipping/receiving/packing stations and new sprinkler upgrades to accommodate the new scaffolding storage), She questioned my knowledge.
Completely annoyed now, I  informed her that I could not discuss the availability of any office or warehouse space. It would be best she call her contact that gave her this information and make an appointment.

pttfffffff. Bitch. Questioning me .. "Are you sure?" .... wtf? How rude.
Am I sure?
Do you know how much privileged information a personal assistant, secretary and accounting clerks have? (those are my job titles and positions from my desk), Granted there are indeed some things I have no idea about and this would be one of them.

We lease our building from another huge company. We have no control over any decisions they could be making to not renew our lease. Gawd knows why, we bring in a shit load of capital (nothing to do with the leasor) and we do pay a very high leasing price for this building. Seriously, its a piece of work. Location is central, and in the middle of a business route and truck route with amazing views from every window. Shit I'm on the first floor of this 3 story building and I have a view of the mountains.

All this information and the more often than not crankiness from the big P, would lead me to believe 60 of us may be looking for jobs in the new year.

Questions.
If the big P isn't renewed, will we be unemployed.
Would the parent company keep us at all, if so, where would the company president reside?
Or would we just run the company with the Controller, CFO, COO, etc.. Can we do that?
Or was this just a rumour that made its way out of our office and into the hands of the public.
If our lease is up and not being renewed are we moving?
If so, how many people may be let go, how many will quit?

So to cover my own hinney, I will begin the job searching in November. Just-in-case.

Ah the day in the life of my job.

Breakthrough in Ovarian Cancer Research!!!!

Huge Breakthrough in Ovarian Cancer

Pass this along to your friends, sisters, aunts, nieces, wives, mums!

The local newspaper announced there has been a breakthrough in treating and finding ovarian cancer.
Now this isn't exactly a blah entry. This is huge!  The way women have been screened and treated for many many years before is about to change!!!

Read the article!

Some points about the old facts and hopeful ones for the new facts:
*Approximately 310 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer in B.C. each year, and about 220 women die from ovarian cancer each year in the B.C. province.

*Most cases of “high grade serous ovarian cancer” are diagnosed at a late stages 3 or 4, and in those cases, only 15 per cent of women survive five years.

*Researchers also discovered that 18 per cent of women who developed ovarian cancer had a previous hysterectomy.

*Researchers now know that leaving the Fallopian tubes intact increases the risk of ovarian cancer.

*Survival rates for women diagnosed early are much better — about 90 per cent.

Those are just some of the facts that women learn about ovarian cancers from the time they get their first period.

Of course with the new procedures being implemented with removal and treatments, I'm curious to see how the stats are going to change, hopefully in favor of women everywhere around the world!

First thought that popped into my head when hearing this news:
1) Compared to before, how will, if at all, removing the fallopian tubes affect entering menopause and/or existing menses?
2) Will this change the percent of women affected by other types of cancer due to having this new form of hysterectomy?
3) In some cases will removing the ovaries still be necessary?

*Researches believe these surgical changes, combined with genetic testing and identification of family members at high risk could decrease ovarian cancer by 50 per cent over two decades

Maybe one day we'll be able to look back and talk about ovarian cancer as a thing of the past.
Would love to say that about all cancers one day!

Who thought a question from a grandchild could sound so sweet? "Grandmama, what is cancer?"  And be able to tell that child about a disease that almost sounds make believe.

Here's to that dream!

Learning from Self History has recently been given a bloggers award.

I'm content. Really, I am!

Where did 2010 go? It's SEPTEMBER!
That's 107 days til Xmas or 6 pay-cheques, which ever you prefer, it still gets you there in the same amount of time.

It does not feel like the last 8 months have been 8 months.  It feels like weeks.
Broke up with D in December, LC moved in November and moved out in May.
I feel like I've been busy busy with shit that I have no time for life. Which is not true.

This past year has been filled with sadness, turmoil, friendships ending, and suddenly I find myself, aware.
Aware that I've been single for 8 months. Not one real date. No casual or random hookups. And I'm not lonely!!! WTF! How did that happen? I'm okay with this? Yes, I am A-OKAY with this.

I'm okay with not being LC punching bag for her severe mood swings, nor her enabler anymore.
I'm okay with not hearing from D every week. Trying to "convince" me that I need to see him. And when he does call, it's been respectful and adult-like. WTH!?

I've been keeping myself busy with ME. MY life. Doing things that make ME happy.
ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Wow, I can not remember the last time I did anything for myself and not feel guilty on some level.
Like someone else would benefit from the extra cash I have ,or spare time, or spare room.
I'm still there for those who need me, but on my terms now. Not theirs.
Wow that sounds harsh and rude, it's not.

I've often heard people say, "Take care of you first", or "You can say No".
But to apply it to your own life, much harder than said. But I'm doing it. Without trying or over thinking it.
Someone calls and needs something from me, I quickly search the database in my head and configure if I can do without something so they don't have too and decide from there. Rather than just saying YES to everything and everyone without thinking about it first.

Wow I'm really making myself sound super selfish.
Maybe this is something I shouldn't be talking about, and just keep it to myself?

I'm content. I feel good about where I am in life at the moment. My friends who are my chosen family.
The loyalty of those friends. Not spending time or trying to stay in touch with those who make no effort in return. I'm content not chasing them down. If they are really friends, they will make effort on their own.
My job, my volunteer job, my wages, a little savings, even being overweight, knowing that I am working on it. I'm content.

Feels good to like who and where I am.
Wonder how long this will last?

With all this said, I feel I'm open to letting new experiences in. And not controlling every aspect of my life. Learning to relax and roll with it. It's fun and more exciting, so far.

Rye whiskey, rye whiskey, rye whiskey, I cry.

This sums up my Saturday night, at the Rusty Gull watching one of my favorite bands, Rosco and my intro to Double Whiskey's, neat. Drinking with friends in town.

Well I like a full bodied lager as much as the next hardworkin' man

The taste of suds while dealin Stud, I can surely understand
Trucker's speed and yes indeed, it's nearly gettin' light,
It's time to switch to whiskey, we've been drinkin' beer all night.

You can fish for bass and cut your grass and drink that purple gas,
Sure enough, but the powerful stuff that'll knock you on yo' ass
Like diesel fuel, nobodies fooled, don't wanna get left behind
It's time to switch to whiskey we've been drinkin' beer all night

It's time to switch to whiskey we've been drinkin' beer all night,
We're all half dead and them that's left is spoilin' for a fight,
Well who'da thunk we'd quit drinkin' drunk
The boys don't spare the rye,
It's time to switch to whiskey we've been drinkin beer all night

I've been splittin 8's and hittin my straights, in the card rooms of the world
Chasin' skirt and gettin' hurt, but now I gotta card playin' girl,
Man she gets excited when the deal don't come out right,
It's time to switch to whiskey, we've been drinkin' beer all night.

It's time to switch to whiskey we've been drinkin' beer all night,
We're all half dead and them that's left is spoilin' for a fight,
Well who'da thunk we'd get jackass drunk
The boys don't spare the rye,
It's time to switch to whiskey we've been drinkin beer all night

Well I heard it said, that you can get some heat in irish pubs,
Servin jameison's to an Orangeman and a bushmills to his cuz,
Here's what you do, with tullamore dew, you can meet us both have way,
it's time to switch to whiskey we've been drinkin beer all day

It's time to switch to whiskey we've been drinkin' beer all night,
We're all half dead and them that's left is pullin for a fight,
Well who'da thunk we'd quit drinkin' drunk
The boys don't spare the rye,
It's time to switch to whiskey we've been drinkin beer all night

It's time to switch to whiskey we've been drinkin' beer all night.

Rye whiskey, rye whiskey, rye whiskey, I cry.

Random Updates October 2025

I no longer work directly with the Screaming Banshee! Back in June we had a meeting and completed a manager's shuffle. The company does...
