Sans Sugar

November 20th I mentioned here about changes I have to make to my diet for the best of my health.

So far, so good.
I think it's easier to go cold turkey cos you HAVE TOO, rather than opting not to ingest something by choice.  I'm making better decisions. I thought I was going to be missing out on taste. Not a friggin chance!
If anything I'm gaining a better trained pallet. :)

In the morning I usually have a black coffee with a hot chocolate pack in it. (work coffee sucks donkey ass)
A few times a week, about 2pm, I'd have a pop.  I don't drink it at home, only when I'm out and about or at work.  Breakfast, was non existent.

Lunches are left over of whatever I had the night before or a quick zip through the drive thru with the work wife. My dinners have consisted of easy to make, convenient dinners.  lots of frozen, easy to pop in to the oven dinners.   I'm surprised just how much ready to eat dinners are available out.

Now that I have to make these changes, I've been looking at the labels.
Holy crap is there a lot of sugar and sodium in prepackaged foods!!! Boooo, fail.

Baby steps. I'm making changes.
I do not keep salt in the house. Never really have, cos if it's available to me, I'll find a way to put it on anything! My thyroid meds are a sodium base, so I dropped salt from my diet about 13 years ago.

I've stopped having a hot chocolate pack in my coffee, and still sans sugar, I'm drinking my coffee black. It's not really that bad.  I've been bringing my breakfast. Cream of Wheat with a banana. Not bad. Sans milk/cream. Although I have to find an easy way to transport breakfast to work if I plan on changing it up etc. Lunches are still left overs of the dinner the night before, but dinners have changed.

I've made the following dishes in the last week: (all small portions as my appetite has diminished and never returned...not a bad thing I guess)
*Salmon steaks with asparagus and quinoa.(type of protein rice)
*Tuna fish casserole. (includes celery, green olives, tuna/salmon, macaroni and baked cheese)
*3 oz steak with rustic potatoes - no butter oil or salt.
*Pizza - I caved one night.....
*Chili with dinner bun, no butter, cheese or sour cream.
*Lemon/basal chicken and baked yams. (YUM in love with Yams!!)

*Dinner party consisted of
-Tequila ribs (no sauce) and asparagus with rustic potato's (no butter, salt, oils used)
- Brochinni & tomato salad - wasn't a fan, tasted like tofu. very bland.
-Creme Brule.  and a few glasses of wine.

I've upped my water intake to 6- 8oz glasses of hot water while at work... I don't keep track when I'm at home. So I could actually be exceeding the recommended water intake.

Giving up sugar really wasn't that hard. I did cave last Thursday and had a caffeine/sugar free diet coke. (barf)... it did not fill the craving I was having and to boot it made me gassy! not cool cola, not cool.

I need more meal suggestions.
I'm not afraid of much and will eat almost anything.
I've eaten a very wide variety of game, tongue, haggis... so bring on your suggestions.
As long as they are reasonably easy to make.

I fell in love with cooking again. :) and I feel good....so far.
I figure as long as I give myself permission to be bad one a month then I can do this.

Hoping to introduce exercise into the regiment shortly.  I want my eating habits to be like breathing before I move forward. Therefore I'm not overwhelmed with change.

I'm learning about good/bad starches. I'm afraid I can not mix quinoa with rustic potatoes or yams.  etc

Please submit your suggestions and help educate me.

Weirdy Girl

I had a thought for an entry, last night.
I can see myself typing it all out, making excellent comical points. Proud of myself for the cheeky entry.

Turns out, I was dreaming... Never happened.
I only learned that when I signed on this morning to see if any readers had commented on it. :(

That post might actually still come to life, as I can recalls bits of it still.

In the last month, I've been having very vivid dreams. The weird part is when I wake up they are more like memories of events that have already happened, I've tried to follow up on a few with friends, only to be looked at like I've grown a second head from my shoulder. The last one before last night, cracked myself up.

I dreamt that I was dreaming.  I even woke up shaking my head how random and weird it was etc.. Only to discover that I woke up from that dream... making sense? I was dreaming I was dreaming, woke up in my dream and then again for real. Two dreams in one? Okay I may not be articulating this to the best of the stories abilities, but it has left me feeling a little crazy and wondering about my own sanity.

I've always been under the impression dreams are made of fantasy and you'd have the ability to wake and clearly know it was not real.  Not random stuff of doing the dishes, making phones calls etc, just everyday stuff.  Okay before you call the psych-ward, I'm well aware how this makes me sound a little schizophrenic.

Quite a few years ago, while recovering from a bad bout (7 yrs) of insomnia, I was told by roommates at the time, Douchebag (before we dated) and The Other, that I slept walked, often.  They knew of my problems at the time and would redirect me to bed.

I'm starting to wonder if it's happening again. That these dreams, cos they are just of everyday things etc, that I'm actually doing them while I'm sleeping. Making them real, not dreams.  Hence why they feel more like a memory than a dream. Since I live alone again (no roommate ever again) I have no way of knowing unless a house guest/friend/boyfriend spending the night catches me in the act and KNOWS I'm sleeping.

I never tend to talk openly about the side effects of dealing with depression in past years.  However now that I'm in a much healthier place, mentally, physically, emotionally, I can talk about them (outside psychiatrist sessions) without feeling like a prisoner of my own mind.

If these dreams/memories continue or increase, better believe I'll be talking to my psychiatrist about it.
Could be as simple as a small lapse of depression as Xmas is coming up in a month. But it makes for some interesting dreams. lol .

In the end, I'm sure it's nothing. Just a blip. A funny one though. :)

Apparently when it rains, it pours...

First of all, I want to apologize for my entries lately.
This blog is suppose to be funny, and upbeat. Not the Debbie Downer I've become in the last little while.

I've been having a lot of good little things happen lately.
Buses and trains all making their connections, work at the museum becoming more exciting, friends helping out cos their friends, not worrying about what they'll get out of it.
I pay attention to the little things happening in my life. Smelling the roses!

Friday, I went for dinner with CC. Had a great talk, got home and noticed that the heat wasn't working all that well. Plus we'd just moved the old love seat out of my apt. So to be a little warm and notice it was cold, must be cold. Saturday, moved the new couch in, NO HEAT.  By Saturday afternoon I called the superintendent.  He flushed the lines and whola, I have heat again. Sunday morning, EFFIN ICE COLD!
Again, flushed the lines, and although it took all day to heat up, it did. By dinner time it was cold again.

As a courtesy, we're not to call the superintendent after 6pm M-F. Ever. Here it was 9pm at night on a Sunday and I've called him. Heat is included in my rent and I want my heat damn it.  Called again at 10pm and one last time at 11pm when I noticed the radiator was leaking, a lot.

We did everything we could and as a result we decided to turn off all heat and water to my apartment. More so as a preventive measure so the suite below me did not flood overnight...........

It's now TUESDAY! and I still have no heat. Folks, that's 5 days with strong winds & below zero weather.
The owner of the building (not the superintendent) had the nerve to tell me:
-"It's not as cold as it is outside, and there is heat coming into your apt".
                - "There is heat coming into the apt,  but its not HEATING the apt, 12 degrees is not an acceptable temperature, there is a huge difference and if you think its not that cold in my apartment, let's switch homes until it's fixed."

The superintendent is doing everything he can by way of the owner, but the owner is an asshole. And hates me cos I won't move out so he can raise the rent to a ridiculously high amount that does not reflect the area or the apartment itself.  Plus I'm not afraid to make him accountable for shit he's pulled in the pass, and by doing so, the TRAC has a nice record of rejected repair requests I've made over the last 8 years.  The result is, I'm not going to do any upkeep on the apartment at all. I'll let it run itself into the ground, move and call the lack of repairs, regular wear and tear over the last 8 plus years. They can suck it.

Why do I stay, you ask? The view! I live 40 mins out of the downtown core and I have a view of water and many many mountains. :)    Plus my place is huge for the amount of rent I pay. The same size downtown would cost me closer to $2000 /mnth. I know what my rights as a renter are, even if he doesn't.

Short of it is, if I do not have heat tonight when I get home, or some sort of word on when the repairs will be done, I'm filing a formal complaint, requesting a large reduction in rent, and my hydro bill to be paid as I'll have to use space heaters, or worse, stay in a hotel.  Heat is included in my rent and they're not providing that and/or giving me pansy answers as to what the problem is and when it will be fixed.
I've told myself for the last 5 days, it's winter camping with dry shelter.

Island Guy who lives only a few blocks from me since he stayed at my apt while looking for a place to live on the mainland. (temp agreement we had) offered up his guest room for me until I get this heat issue worked out. Friendly neighbourly thing to do, right?  I think it is.  His g/f however does not. She broke up with him! Spazzed out completely! Seriously?  We have no romantic history, and I'll be in the guest room! For all I know she'll be in the next room. I did not have a problem with her, (I do now) so why should she?

So I have no heat, the owner is being a wiener, and my friend trying to be a friend, loses his g/f in the process. Wow.

I told him to tell her I'll stay in my cold apartment, so she can rest her spazzy little mind.
I did not like 20yr olds when I was one, I don't care for them anymore now.

Most of them that is.

.....More on this later.

Health Results, A New Couch, and Set Boundaries.

Since the July long weekend my body has been betraying me.
Each month a little more than the last. Enough so, that it warranted a visit to the doctors to take a deeper look at my over all health, based on the symptoms I'd been having and in short, feeling shitty all the time.

Lot's of blood work, x-rays, and stool samples, 3 weeks later, we have the results.
First of all, I'm thankful that the results are, although not great, it's not super bad.

My overall health is listed as follows:

*X-Rays revelled torn muscle in my elbow.

We're not doing anything about this yet. It will take time to heal. If the pain persists, I might qualify for cortisone shots twice a year, which will help immensely with the pain and allow my body to heal the elbow.

*My thyroid number is way off.
This explains some of my unstable bowels, the unbalance activity with my acne, my hair, and being extremely tired all the time.  We're upping my thyroid meds considerably, and will have blood work to check my THS levels again in 8 weeks. This is very much a normal practice when monitoring any one's thyroid. It helps tweak the right amount of mgs dose you should receive.

*Bad Cholesterol is at the high end of normal. Booo
*Good Cholesterol is at the very low end of normal. Boooo
*Sugar levels are high. Actually only two points shy of becoming a type 2 diabetic.
*I'm class 2 obese.  :( Ouch.

It's no secret I'm heavier now than I have ever been in my life. I've been fit my whole life until 10 years ago. My body handled the stress of a parent dying by gaining weight.
Of course, I contributed to this too. I became lazy, lost interest in everything.
As I got my mental health back in check (nervous breakdown when my mum passed away) I never got back into being active.

I must change a few diet practices right away, bring my sugar levels into check, and lose some weight. My doctor has suggested to aim for 40 lbs over the next year and a bit. Then we'll go for the other 30-40 lbs. I carry all my weight in my mid-section. For a woman over the age of 35, this increases my chances for all sorts of cardiac diseases.
I WILL BE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ASAP!

As far as my cholesterol, I have to make some small changes that will have a huge effect.

*Switch from margarine to butter. I did not know margarine is pretty much only a few molecules from being plastic, and I put that stuff in my body! Same reason I never touch coffee mate. It has the same ingredients that hospitals use to make casts. ew.
*No cooking with oils, or sprays (I don't really use those anyways)
*Cut back on the cheese intake. :(
*No processed foods.
*Learn more about good/bad carbs and which ones turn into sugar.
*No more hot chocolate in the horrible coffee at work, to mask the horrible taste.
*Work out.

I will start with walking up the hill of death 4 days a week to start, then add weights to my routine at home. I have a gym membership but never go, and probably still won't go. Doing things that are fun, and distracting while getting a work out are more my thing.  My active friends are going to be so happy!!!

These are all changes some people do naturally, others, like myself, will benefit from making these changes.

I'll keep you posted. Might be blogging about it more as I'll want to hear from you and your experiences, whether they're personal ones or of that of a friend going through the same issues. I LOVE food, so cutting back and making changes will probably be my biggest feat.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I moved in my new pullout loveseat today. Okay, actually I was completely useless in the process of moving it. It's effin heavy! And the bed kept popping out. :(
My friend RN moved this beast of a beauty 98% by himself. I helped. Only with maneuvering it onto a dolley so we could roll it most of the way, but that in itself was hard. We got it in my apt, and its much bigger than it looked at my friends house.
I promptly took a bath, then a two hour nap on the new couch. Bliss.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Earlier this week, I emailed the curator and archivist about a change of pace at the museum. We arranged to discuss my options Friday. The office space is super small, even if you whispered you'd still hear the conversation.

The meeting was great! Everything was well received. I'm excited about the new tasks I'll be assisting with.

Everything from painting the new gallery (in renos right now), data base cross referencing with the collections. Collection care (itemizing, cleaning artifacts, documenting, and storing items in proper acid free materials).
Victorian Teas over Christmas, decorating the House for Xmas (which is part of the museum) and a few more things. It will be nice to have a variety of tasks, rather than just documenting pictures into the data base for the rest of my volunteering career.

I went for drinks with CC after work, where she voiced her disappointment that I had not shared my interest in changing positions with her, and how she could have helped.
I informed her that I did not need her assistance, but thanked her for her concern.

We ended up having a long long talk, 4 hours long. And I laid down some boundaries in order for us to continue a healthier friendship.
She took it amazingly well. But most of all I got her to agree that our friendship and work relationship are to be kept separate. I don't mind hearing about the occasional venting, cos we all do it, but requested it be kept to only serious things.

So there you have it my devoted stalkers, that has been my last 24 hours.

Smacks Head Into Desk - Repeatedly.

CC the girl I work with at my volunteer position is acting up again.
The way here brain works, well, confuses me. Really.

Completely divulged too much information about our co-workers. Tells me about an apparent borderline harassment relationship she has with my immediate supervisor there. Which btw the way I think there is a whole lot more to the story than she lets on, but I'll let her believe that she's the smarter one of us.
They way BB treats her and the little things he does for her are probably and more likely the result of a one time fling between the two of them.

However his behaviour, lack of communication, and lack of general work courtesy has made her uncomfortable. She's gone through the proper chain of command to have the issues she's having with BB addressed. Today she had an appointment with the cities HR department. Upon asking her how it went, she claims she can not discuss it.

Seriously?
Not a, "it went well", or "good"or, "meh". Any would have sufficed.
Instead I get, "I can not discuss it". I don't need the details, I just like to know if it went well.
After all I typed out the list of complaints she had so she had it front and centre and wouldn't forget anything. Ya, I complain about her, but she was in need, (extremely high anxiety issues) so I helped out when asked.

Shit, the girl tells me every little detail about people I shouldn't have the privilege of knowing about, now decides to keep quiet now?  I wonder if it did not turn out in her favour and she's keeping mute to save face?

She emailed me yesterday saying, "oh I've got a good one for ya, this will make your day!!!"
Ok? It only turned out that a friend of mine who runs a market near by, emailed the archivist about borrowing some of our costumes for the xmas market.  Ok, I'm not sure why this is making my day?

She was bent and confused as to why MY friend would email both the curator and the archivist about this and not her, the costumes coordinator.

*smack head into desk*

Are you serious? I had to explain to her like a child, that my friend and I do not discuss who I work with etc, and since I only volunteer there, she probably did not see it appropriate to ask me to give out information about staff that might not be public information.  I also explained that BB and her have talked previously in regards to the house she bought, and that is her only formal contact. (I now have a copy of the email) JD asks BB to forward the email to whomever would be able to assist her. And reminded her that being the costume coordinator was an in-house position, not a public one. So why would ANYONE know to contact her?

So read the fucking email slower. Still not sure how this is funny, or warrants a "got one for ya, this will make your day". JD is conducting business.

This is the typical day-to-day saga's I deal with when it comes to CC.  I do have to tell her to relax, it's not a personal attack. Which she implies all the time. In short, she feels non-existent among her co workers and her role within the community. Unfortunately that is not something I can help her with.

I'm off to the museum right now.... wish me luck.

A Word I Hate.

I might not be the first to say this. Social Media has made a lot of people stupid.
If you did not have A.D.D. before texting and twitter options with only a 140 characters, society has allowed you to develop A.D.D.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing anyone who does have A.D.H.D. Some of the most successful people contribute their success to the fact they have it. They've learned to embrace this and work to their own benefit. It's the remaining people who have just become lazy with their vocabulary.

Sure text messages can be the exception to the rule, but ONLY when you're text messaging, or if short hand of sorts happens to be in your job description. But professional emails, and conversations in person, hell no!  I might just slap you if you were to actually say O.M.G. OR LOL instead of just laughing or saying the words Oh My Gawd, and if you're over the age of 12, you deserved to be punched.

On to the a word I've discovered I hate. I hate it with all my being!
The word actually makes me want to kick puppies. Sort of. Okay, not really, but you get my point.

Chilax (ing), (ed). - What the fuck is that?
Is that the new way to express you're entirely too lazy to actually choose one word or the other to describe how you feel?

Does the dictionary still exist, in print? Yes I believe it does.
Does it exist online too? Yes it does.
Does Google correct words and ask you if you meant _ _ _ _ _ when you miss spell something? Yes it does.
Do all computers come with a spell check and grammar option? Why yes they do!

So please explain to me why people insist on using the following incorrectly?
They're, Their, There, Where, Were, We're, Know, No. To, Too, Two.

-Side note:
Ever notice that most spell checks do not recognize Canadian spellings?

With our OU's in words. Colour, Favourite, etc. or the use of RE & ER. Centre, or Center?
Our American Neighbours drop the U. It's not wrong per se, as a whole country spells words without, but what about the Northern Half of North America and UK that does utilize the U in words as we're British Commonwealth? Huh? Food for thought.
Don't get me started on the About or Aboot? Do we really say it with it sounding like "aboot"?
No Doubt About it. ;P

Now, I'm not the grammar police at all. My blog can contest to that in itself. Shit, grammatical errors have been brought to my attention.  However, the basic knowledge of spelling should at least be correct.
Yes, yes, there is human error, but just plain stupidity or laziness is my complaint.

Hi gurl, Wasup?
Hows you? What doin?
Seriously?

When did it become okay for anyone not in grade school to continue to speak like that?
Do people think it's cute? There is a time and place for this kind of slack and sloppiness in communication.

Hey wiener it is not okay: When you're talking to the receptionist while waiting for an interview, at work(excluding breaks and lunch), talking to any co-workers on work topics, your parents.  Oh That's a good one! Would you talk to your parents this way?
(I know I just made bad grammar sound like it's all vulgar). Chances are not. Why?
Cos your parent's would most likely knock you into next week for dumbing yourself down.

I think that's what it boils right down too.
Why would you deliberately dumb yourself down to look stupid when you're not?

What words, new words, lack of words drive you nutty?.......GO!

I'm Allergic to...Myself.

So the derm apt went well.
It's not acne and not a typical allergic reaction. Actually not an allergy at all.
It's a reaction. To a effin cold sore that is brewing!!!!

Here is my face today. Looking more like bad acne than a leper.

Nov 12th, 2010.

I've suffered from cold sores my whole life. All the women in my family do. My mum, sisters, my aunts, my nieces... all on my mum's side of the family.

The cold sore in question hasn't surfaced as of yet, but the place I get it is starting to change colour, which is an indication that one is coming.

Proactive move - Valtrex. 2 pills a day for three days. The rest of my face, well it will just have to heal on it's own.

Now the only commercials you EVER see on TV for Valtrex are for genital herpes.lol They forget to mention or maybe it's in the small print, that cold sores are from the herpes virus. The first 1/2 of the DNA is the same. It's the second 1/2 that change it from simplex 1 or 2.  Guess I shouldn't leave the bottle in clear site in case any dates see it and freak out!.. What? Valtrex.... I'm outta here...
Ya umm try and explain that one.

She wants to put me on another cycle for 3 months on the meds I was taking before.
I've advised her I'll clear it with my family doctor first as we're waiting on results as to why I was feeling so crappy for so long. (might be those meds?). She understood and we made another follow appointment in 3 months.

Long story short, just a freak of nature.

I"m not thrilled about going sans makeup. I don't wear much to begin with but still, less is even worse. Bigger picture, bigger picture, BIGGER PICTURE! must-heal.

Acute Acne or Allergic Reaction? You Decide.

Did I not just very recently mention my body was betraying me?

Three months ago I started taking some meds and a topical cream for my face.
Stopped (cycle over) and whola, my face is a mess.
I have an appointment with my dermatologist tomorrow, nice timing.

When you see the photo's, please explain to me how I'm suppose to tell her the treatment worked, until now.

Today was Remembrance Day, a statutory holiday in many countries including Canada (excluding 3 provinces). Realizing I had run out of coffee, I ran to the cafe to grab something and treat myself to something a little more special than drip brew and enjoy the parade. Overwhelmed with the decisions, I opted to go for drip coffee with sugar free hazelnut syrup. YUM.

The parade starts and finishes in front of my suite, so I do not even have to brave the cold to watch it. :) After shedding a few tears and waving back to the vets who wave and wink at those of us on our patio's, I thought it's time to shower.
As soon as the water hit my face I knew something wasn't right. It burned like a thousand suns, and stung like I had road rash on my face.

When I got out and looked in the mirror, this is what I saw. Note: it did NOT look like this prior to having my coffee.

Please forgive me, these are not pretty. My face is extremely sore, and swollen.
The lighting sucks, I couldn't find the back-light features.

Picture No.1

Picture No.2

Seriously, how do I explain to the doctor that my face was clear and that it's not an excuse to avoid another treatment.

Even worse, I have to go to work tomorrow looking like this and I can not wear ANY makeup. not that any amount of studio makeup could work any magic right now, nor to I want to anger whatever this is, anymore.

I took 20mg of reactin allergy pills to see if it would help or lessen the burn.
Nope. Cold compress from a frozen mug, gave me temporary relief. It is so hot, the frozen mug thawed in minutes. :(

So, I think I'm warranted to say FML! No one is going to date me looking like this!!!

Xmas On the Island '10

Woot!

Just received the email regarding our office closure dates for the holidays. :)

I will be on Vancouver Island Dec 22 - Dec 27th. Woot!
I get to beat the crowd of walk on's before and after the all the craziness.

Walking on is cheaper, although you lose the comfort of your bubble zone being in a car. (which cost considerably more, but takes the same amount of time to commute to and from the ferries).
I'm a huge fan of the Sea Lounge. For $10 you get to sit in comfort of the "quiet zone" Seriously!!
Large captain chairs two seats per section, all you can eat snacks and drinks, tea, Starbucks coffee, juice, milk, water, private bathroom, all the newspapers, magazines to suite every need, and NO SCREAMING KIDS! What's not to love? Oh did I mention that every single chair is a window seat? :)

In short, its the first class section of the ferry. Unless you want to spend $25-$75 for a state room, you can get a TV and a bed!!!

In the past I use to be pretty wound up still when I got to the island. I hadn't learned how to calm to "island time"... after the first year or two, I've learned to distress and mellow the fuck out on the ferry in that 2 hours.

I love the ferry. I do. (minus screaming kids and rude people) The wind in your hair as you catch some sun on deck (seasonal of course) or cold air on your face in the winter, the smell of the ocean(well a strait that leads to the ocean again). ahhhhhh.

Its a mini cruise, through the Juan de Fuca Strait. So much to see during day light hours.
The ridiculous homes you view as you pass thru the Southern Gulf Islands (see the inset on the map) and many whales, sea lions, and bald eagles. It makes me appreciate it more when I hear/see an out of town visitor or first timer ferry rider, get super excited about seeing something that we take for granted a lot of the time. The staff are more than qualified, pleased and eager to assist with ANY questions about the surroundings and ship.....well most of them.

I recommend everyone do at least one touristy thing in their own town and explore a little more.
Might find a new love, restaurant, secret little get away place. :)

Deal Breakers & Breaking Up

My Devoted Stalkers,

I read some blogs recently and today that provoked me to rant about bad dates, deal breakers, and breaking up.

I've gone out with many men who have left me feeling like shooting myself in the head was a good idea.
Others, have simply disappointed me with their lack of common sense and manners. I've gone on more first dates than should be legally allowed and even fewer second dates. I might die alone at this rate.

Deal Breakers
~If you drive away before I'm at my front door, let alone inside the lobby of my apartment. Deal breaker, there is no second date. Ever.  Now, I'm sure there are men who just don't know any better. But actions speak volumes and if you're interested in my well being and safety, just as a gentleman, I"m not interested in seeing you a second time. I'm sure I've passed up many very terrific men that could have been "the one", had I let this one slide.

~Talking about your ex's or sexual desires, conquests and favorite positions with me on a first date..... ugh. Did I ask you? How did this topic come up? Even worse, when I mention that its inappropriate dinner conversation and you continue, you're lucky I don't leave you right there and then.

~Lie to me. If you've told me the smallest of fibs to try and impress me, and I find out..... Don't call me ever again. Seriously, if you're willing to lie about something so small and properly pretty insignificant, what else are you willing to lie about? No thanks, moving on.

I've been known to lack tact when telling someone I'm no longer interested. That probably stems from the fact at that stage, you've pissed me off or annoyed me to great lengths I don't believe I owe you any tact.
If I liked you, and we've dated for a bit, well that is a different story. But if I've got nothing invested other than a couple conversations and night out, don't count your eggs that I'll tell you gently that you suck.

 Bad Dates
I've had many.... Where do I find these guys? (at the time of these dates, my bullshit detector wasn't working well, cos I agreed to go out with these men).... Maybe I attract them.
I need better Jedi skills to ward off da crazies.

~One lied to me about doing drugs.
We actually had a great day/night date until we left to go to our next venue.

Hiking around Rocky Point near my house, great date, good times.
Til we were on our way to meet up with some of my friends at a local pub. My date was pulled over by police and arrested. (We were in separate cars)

Turns out he was:
1) Out past curfew
2) Reporting missing from his HALFWAY HOME
3) Was a recovery drug addict
4) Had a box of needles in his back seat (which actually turned out to be his aunts…when….
5) His aunt reported her car STOLEN, and needed the needles for her diabetes
6) Yes there is a sixth… he was only 20 not 28 that he said he was (he looked 28)

The police said they would release him to ME if I would drive him home, otherwise he was going to jail and the car was being towed (it was already hoisted up) Of course my first thought was to ask if I was in any danger and explained we were on a first date etc. The cop took some pity on the kid and told me to give him a few minutes cos he was crying in the back of squad car.

Ya I drove him home, and he actually had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to see him again…. FML

~ One date picked me up, in steel toes boots, torn sweats and shirt. I asked if he had just come from work and he said “NO”. Longest 3 hours of my life. When he excused himself from the table (he actually just got up and walked away) the table beside us (maybe barely in their 20’s couple) the young man leaned over and quietly suggested, “I think you should get a headache before he returns”…. MADE MY NIGHT! And I promptly did that. I never thought I’d be one to use an excuse to get out of a date, I’m usually direct.

~ Second coffee date with Mr Comedian. Our first date was good, mostly cos I couldn’t stop laughing; he was a Brit, moved here a month earlier. I love dry wit.

We met at my coffee house were I’m a regular and everyone knows my name etc... He instantly suggests we “go back to my place” with a creepy tone. NO Thanks! I don’t have men in my apt until later on (lie but he doesn’t need to know that) long story short, he’s a grown man and threw a foot stomping hissy fit.
YES-HE-DID! I stood there waiting for the punch line as onlookers gawked, the punch line never game. I left him there. I called a cop friend working around the corner and went and took him a coffee til I was sure Brit boy was gone.

How times have changed... not.

Breaking Up.
I've never really been good at breaking up with someone and come across as too blunt.
I mean they will never learn if someone doesn't stop holding their friggin man-child hands.

~I don't want to date you anymore. (of  course they ask why) I don't use lines like "its me not you" on anyone.. ask me why, I'll reply with "I hope you really want to know, cos I will tell you"

I've broken up with a man and much like a physco g/f  made a scene once.
My date had yelled at a handicap person for being in his way, and not understanding completely that he wanted past him.  I let him have it. At this stage in the dating game, I don't think I mentioned to him that I have a sibling and two nephews that are mentally and physically handicap to some degree.
Needless to say, I made a scene, (never yelled but firmly and loudly made my opinion of him known), drew a crowd and received an applause when I finished berating him for being an insensitive assface.
... Can you believe he called me to apologize as he didn't know about my sibling and nephews? What? That doesn't change the fact you treated someone who never asked for their hardships in life, like he was less of a person than you?

So My Devoted Stalkers, what are some of your Deal Breakers, Bad Dates & Breaking Up stories?
.....GO~!

Ugh... Gawd I hope you're pulling a U-Turn.

Where I sit in the office is on the first floor (alone) at the front desk.
Reception/personal assistant/account payable.... so it is my job to be pleasant to everyone who comes in that front door, whether I like it or not.

We face a very busy thru road (truck route) on a bend. I watch hundreds of cars pull u-turns all day.
Some do it in our driveway (safest way) others risk the lives of everyone around them while stopping mid land and try to turn around mid road. I'm still waiting for the day a large rig comes flying around the bend and smokes someone.... No, I don't wish for it, but its going to happen one day.

When cars though pull into the driveway and up to the front door, they are 90% of the time lost and don't realize they are actually on the correct route. The other 10%  are usually clients or couriers.

Is it mean or bad of me to curse every single one of them in my head and wish they are really just pausing in their u-turns? Why does it bother me so, like I'm being put out or something for doing my job?

Anyone else sit at a front desk and curse the people who walk thru the door, when all you want to do is work, read blogs, and do nothing?

Friendship Obligations

My house guest from Nov 09-May 10 has been up to her usual ways lately.
I haven't had any contact with her since May, however she is still giving out my house phone number as her own.

In the past week ish, a credit card company, an employment agency and I believe her cell phone provider (creditors) are looking for her.  They've been leaving messages quite a bit, but today, there were three nasty messages for her.

I called each other them back advising she no longer resides at this number. Two of the three were happy to get a new phone #. The employment agency was another story.

Apparently she signed on with an employment agency in her province last week. They've called to advise of an interview etc. When I called to give them the correct phone # etc, they advised me that the day she came in, she gave them THIS number.  Which if you look back in my blog you'll know she wasn't so much leaving her abusive spouse as much in hind insight that she was actually taking a vacation from being a parent and adulthood. (I learned a little too late on that one)

Good move.
Give them a listing you wont be able to be reached at. Therefore, you'll wont have to work.
This is a move she's probably pulled to apease the ex (who she is living with again - but not together) so he thinks she's actively looking for work but of course isn't getting any call backs...

Well that changed.
I gave all the people looking for her, her house line. The one the ex checks regularly, the one she doesn't.

This isn't the first time she's scammed or gone to great lengths to avoid actually working. Or getting more for nothing. While she was staying with me; she collected EI here, Child tax from another province(illegal) and took a student loan here, shortly before she moved back to the other province.
Fraud Fraud Fraud on so many levels.

It's amazing how some people will go to those lengths to take advantage of, scam, or find another way to bring in money. When in reality, that probably takes more effort, covering your ass with lies, than it would to just go get a job.

I'm sure I won't be hearing from her, or getting anymore phone calls to cover for her when she learns that all those people (and anyone who calls) will now have her proper contact information. Not sure what gave her the impression I would? Or maybe thought I'd just ignore the calls, or too sheepish to do anything about it.
After 23 yrs, she should know better. When pissed off and have met my limit, I'll fight fire with fire and give you your own dose of medicine.

Hope all the effort put into avoiding reality and adulthood is paying off for you.

I'm no longer under any friendship obligations to cover your ass. You've got what's coming to you. Karma is a bitch. You put out so much negative energy into the world, it's bound to find you and return 10 fold.

Is There One In Every Bunch?? Isn't There?

I have a co-worker who drives me absolutely INSANE!
He's never done anything to me, he's actually been quite nice to me in the past years. This past summer he took some time off. Quite abruptly too.  As it turns out, we've learn (mostly from him calling the office to tell his story to whomever will listen and then ask to be transferred to the next person) that he had a minor mental breakdown. *sigh*
Fair enough, I think a few of have been there. I know I have.

Background.
He runs, manages, sits in his office ignoring his staff or walks around the building telling stories about he is so-effin-busy. Instead of disciplining the inept staff he has into getting some work done.

While he was away the company hired a new warehouse manager, one who actually has experience dealing with a union staff.(lazy jerks) Advising the old one, prior his return, he'd make the same amount of money but would have way less responsibilities. SCORE!!!.. Or so you'd think.

Now that he is back (a few months now) he is pissed off -all-the-time.  Upset he's not included on emails regarding areas that no longer have anything to do with him. Demands he's kept in the loop and isn't verbally shy about expressing his unhappiness and stress levels to anyone who will listen. *sigh*.

He's been told several times now, that he deals solely with receiving/shipping, the other manager will deal with the staff and all other majors.  So to email him about any issues that he does not directly deal with would be a waste of time management and inappropriate. Not to mention mirco-managing. Which this company is a big fan of at times.

Back to today/yesterday/this month......
He walks around A LOT, will stand in front of your desk, whether or not you're on the phone, in a closed meeting and will just walk in, stand there and *sighs*. Ignore him, he *sighs* some more until you acknowledge he's upset about thing. Or sometimes he will simply walk up to your desk, hunched over, sigh loudly and shake his ahead mumbling something about how busy he is and cant get any work done. *sigh*.

It's enough now that when I see him coming, I grab my coffee cup and walk away from my desk, cos I'm growing a very short tolerance for him. Or to sit at my desk and watch him approach staff in the parking lot (before their shift has even started) to ask them whatever. Shit, let them get settled and have a coffee first, geez! If we did that to him, he'd throw a hissy fit, with lots of shugged sighs and arms waving about.

Yesterday I was alittle short fused with him. I have many days where my down time will drive me bonkers, but that is in no way an invite to come talk to me. I've learned early on, to smile, nod, and pretend like you give a shit...it's in my unwritten job description as I sit in the front office and the first person most people see.

Sorry, detoured. Yesterday....
He walks up to my desk, lets out a very heavy sigh, and starts telling me how he had spent most of his day at the hospital. Okay you have my attention now. I mean I don't have to like him but I don't want anything bad to happen to people.  Starts off telling me how HE spent the last 6 hours at the hospital, how HE waited to be seen, and now much of an imposition it was on him and how backed up and busy he is now. etc..Then to learn it's actually about one of his staff, NOT HIM!...

Very annoyed that he stole the thunder of an injured co-worker, I let him have it.

"WHAT?!, you've been standing here for 10 mins telling me of your visit to the hospital and it's not even about you, although you would have led me to believe it was!

You are in a management position and it if extremely unprofessional of you to be discussing the status of your employees well being with anyone outside of the HR department! Let alone make it sound like it was your ordeal! And although I'm part of that team, I'm not management.

If you are so behind, then I would strongly suggest you stop walking around all floors telling a misleading story, that you shouldn't be discussing in the first place and go back to the warehouse and get the jobs you're so-far-behind-on, done!"

He grumbles something under his breath at me and walks upstairs to retell his story. I emailed a few people on a different floor to warn them he was making the rounds again today.  We send out these warnings among the office cos sometimes they are so frequent, it takes away from you completing your own job.

An hour goes by and I'm slowly starting to feel really bad for scolding an old man (61 this month, he will remind you daily) who is probably lonely and just wants to talk to anyone, about anything.  (hangs head in shame) I reallllllly need to get a better poker face when it comes to dealing with certain staff and their oddities.  I remind myself I'll be old one day and will probably chat up the younger co-workers and tell unsolicited stories about whatever.

When it comes down to it, it's the lack of work ethic he has that bothers me so.
How he's lasted here for 20 something years and has yet to be fired is a mircle to me.
He is always here, rarely away, rarely late....but while he is here, he's rarely working.

I guess there is one in every group. *sigh* ;-s

Play Thing

I find it hard to date random new people all the time. It's exhausting and robotic.
Since Dec 09 I haven't really looked, been out on, asked out on, or pursued anyone. And I'm 100% okay with it. I'm happy getting to know myself again and being happy on my own again, first, without a spouse.

Recently an old flame started texting me with news that the demise of this 3 yr relationship was coming to an end. Wanted to know if I was up for some casual, no strings attached dating "and some".
First of all, I respect this man. Mostly cos even when he decided his relationship was over with Miss K, he was never inappropriate with anyone (that I'm aware of) or myself.  No sexting, msn msg's or emails.  October 31st she moved out and he became single. Woot!

We've made plans for heavy make out sessions and dinners out. That's it. Good times.
The great thing about the way we work, is we're honest. There are no games. Seriously.
If he wants more or visa versa, we talk about it.  Thats what happened last time. I was on/off again with the Roayle Douchbag and TB wanted more... I mistakenly (looking back in high insight) opted for Royale Douchbag instead of the man 9 years my junior who has more manners and etiquette than most men my own age.  So we're looking forward to passing the time with each other while he re-enters the dating scene.

:)

November is booked solid. My body betrayed me.

I'm quite the social butterfly this month.
Actually it's nothing out of the norm for myself to be busier in the winter months than in the summer.
In the summer I'm just too tired from the heat to entertain.

This month aside from going to dinners, hosting dinners, I'll have friends in town, donating more blood, having my annual womanhood poked at by my insanely hot gyno.

Yup, he's my age and hot. TMI ALERT!
I have to distract myself by counting the holes in the ceiling tiles when he has to feel my cervix. Then am promptly embarrassed when he tells me to "relax".  Ugh. I wonder if he goes home at night and tells his wife who is excited to see him... ."hunny, I swear, if I see one more today...." lol

Normally I would go thru planned parenthood for my annuals, but alas I'm off that age now, I need to see a regular gyno doctor. :(

More recently, I feel like my body is betraying me.
I'm feeling run down, in bed before 9 most nights for the last 3 weeks. No tolerance level for alcohol, no appetite, and my bathroom duties are on the fritz too.  Needless to say when I went to the doctors on Saturday for a check up my elbow,(torn muscle) we got to talking and next thing I know, I'm being written an requisition for blood work on my thyroid(twice a year) diabetes, my liver, cardiac artery disease, stool cultures, all cholestorals', and testing for celiac.

If everything comes back normal he'll probably suggest for me to start taking vitamins etc
I mean 3 weeks ago, aside from my elbow and hormonal acne, I was feeling just fine. Well, minus my bowel behaviour, which I won't bother you with the details, but I will tell you, it's been an on-going thing for 20 years.  For the most part it's been stable and behaving...until now.

I've made it clear I do not want to be on any meds unless its necessary. I've watched my siblings take something for the ailment, something for that cos it upset their stomach, something for the side effects of that etc... next thing you know, they are on a cocktail of meds for the original pill. No thank you.

I have a 3 pill rule. My thyroid.... then there is room for two more a day if needed.  yes I could taking Motrin as a pill, when I feel the need to take it.

So I have a feeling this holiday season is going to be semi-dry. Which I'm okay with. Since when I do have a small glass of wine or a beer. I feel like I drank a case of whatever.... so.not.cool.body...just saying.

I will be making the best of everything this month, since it's going to be full of shit and giggles. :)

Random Updates October 2025

I no longer work directly with the Screaming Banshee! Back in June we had a meeting and completed a manager's shuffle. The company does...
