What is your monthly cycle count? Do you count when your menses will come when you run out of birth control pills? Do you count on a calendar (as I do, sans birth control) or have another method?
I run a 24-28 day cycle.
Which means (for some of you men out there who are amazed by the female body) Us ladies get our period any one of those days. Whatever cycle range they may be on.
Now for those who may have pcos or other health related issues, your cycle may be a little off kilter, but you find what's normal for you and you work with it.
Those of you who have been reading me now know I have hypothyroidism (under active thyroid) and while it's easily treatable, it can play with my body. It means if the medication is off I can have issues with thirst, extra dry skin, hair falling out (not much) bm issues and it could mess with my menses cycle.
I'm on day 35 and have not received my monthly womanhood gift that lets me know everything in my body is working a-okay. I'm suspecting since we changed the dosage on my thyroid meds only 4 weeks ago, that it might... might, have caused me to not have my period this month.
I've come to this conclusion over being pregnant, cos well, I practice safe sex. Plus, I'm still having all the symptoms - mood swings, cravings for salt and meat, and mild cramps.
A free month?? SWEET!
I'm sure though that the new meds just messed with me and I'm on a new cycle and no have NO IDEA when I'll get it.

Womanhood is a Big Meanie..
I haven't had much to say this past week.
I'm tired, calm, meh, craving salt, not talkative, not sleeping great, and feel like the 14(excluding commuting time) hours between when I leave work and when I return is not really enough time. Feels like only a few hours in between most days lately.
Then it occurred to me to ask myself, what's changed? At first I thought nothing.
Then realized I'm due for my womanhood to arrive soon. I can not speak for other ladies, but unless you're on the pill or count your cycle, a lot of women are notaware pay attention to the things happening to their bodies for that 10 days prior to the "gift" arriving. How many women have you heard say, "I was a raging lunatic, I think I'm going crazy."etc. Only to realize that a few days later, their womanhood arrived.
We laugh it off shaking our heads at our own temporary insanity, while our male counterparts knew the whole time when it was arriving, but could never in a million years ask us, "are you getting your period?" Cos that just opens a world of fighting words. When it comes to certain topics, I think men nailed it, keeping their mouths shut early on and become smarter than us for a few days. Just a few days.
I came to the conclusion yesterday that I'm due soon, and of course ran to my calendar and counted my cycle. I'm not on birth control, so either I count it or run risk of embarrassment asking the waitress at a bar/restaurant if they have any female necessities available or be out in public and not be able to find a public restroom. For the most part I've always got a few supplies with me in a pretty little silk pencil case that holds the goods perfectly and takes up no room in my purse. Plus I can also just take this little Japanese silk pencil case aka tampon, wipes, pad holder to the bathroom with me rather than my whole purse, and not many would be any the wiser.
The point is, I'm aware of myself this month. My mood, lack of patience, increase craving for salt and protein, and more tired. Now that I know, I can put the kibosh on any onset mood swings that are unnecessary.
What are some of the crazy things you've done or said a week before you're due?
And at the same time think you're completely sane....

I'm Allergic to...Myself.
So the derm apt went well.
It's not acne and not a typical allergic reaction. Actually not an allergy at all.
It's a reaction. To a effin cold sore that is brewing!!!!
Here is my face today. Looking more like bad acne than a leper.
I've suffered from cold sores my whole life. All the women in my family do. My mum, sisters, my aunts, my nieces... all on my mum's side of the family.
The cold sore in question hasn't surfaced as of yet, but the place I get it is starting to change colour, which is an indication that one is coming.
Proactive move - Valtrex. 2 pills a day for three days. The rest of my face, well it will just have to heal on it's own.
Now the only commercials you EVER see on TV for Valtrex are for genital herpes.lol They forget to mention or maybe it's in the small print, that cold sores are from the herpes virus. The first 1/2 of the DNA is the same. It's the second 1/2 that change it from simplex 1 or 2. Guess I shouldn't leave the bottle in clear site in case any dates see it and freak out!.. What? Valtrex.... I'm outta here...
Ya umm try and explain that one.
She wants to put me on another cycle for 3 months on the meds I was taking before.
I've advised her I'll clear it with my family doctor first as we're waiting on results as to why I was feeling so crappy for so long. (might be those meds?). She understood and we made another follow appointment in 3 months.
Long story short, just a freak of nature.
I"m not thrilled about going sans makeup. I don't wear much to begin with but still, less is even worse. Bigger picture, bigger picture, BIGGER PICTURE! must-heal.

Epic Melt Down! Yasmin Birth Control - Fail.
I have officially become a lunatic- basket case- crazy pmsing cry at the drop of a hat- nutz.
9 days into taking the Yasmin 28 pill and I've lost my friggin mind.
Yesterday, mid afternoon at work I hit an all bottom low, emotionally.
If you were breathing wrong, I probably swore at you in my head. Crazy.
About 4 days into the package I started having all sorts of symptoms.
Extremely tender breasts, blurred vision, constant dull headache, insomnia, constant racing heart, shortness of breath, mood swings that could make a manic person look sane!
Was it all hype worked up in my head? Who knows, but it was coming to a head whether I was ready for it or not. I left work abruptly about 2pm, while quickly losing my ability to keep my composer emotionally and professionally. Got home less than an hour later and slept til 8pm. Not feeling refreshed, only more sad, gloomy and wishing I could just curl up and sleep life away.
I've had a bout of depression in my past due to extreme circumstances, but this, this was erratic and if I had been on the streets someone might have called the police to lock me up.
Know how humiliating it is to be on transit sobbing uncontrollably? Ya this isn't building ANY character.
At some point last night I decided this emotional roller coast I've been experiencing the last 9 days was so not worth it, to clear up a little chin, back, breast acne. Hormonal my ass. Can only imagine what I'll be like when I start going thru peri-menopause if this is how my body reacted to birth control.
I called the nurses line 811 and explained what I was feeling et cetra and asked if it was okay/safe to just stop taking the pill. They advised me yes it was and mentioned that this clearly wasn't the bcp for me.
After asking why I was taking bcp's over the age of 35, I gave them all the reasons we were trying this. They understood and said it was more imperative I stop taking it if I was indeed having the side effects I claimed, considering I wasn't taking it for birth control itself. Weighed the pro/con list.
Being as upset as I was, no one in the right mind would dare tell me I wasn't feeling those things.
She also mentioned that it should be a week before I'm 100% normal.
Day 10 - I'm no longer taking the Yasmin 28.
When I inform my doctor that I've stopped, I'll also mention that I never wish to do that again. I'll deal with the acne. The topical and penicillin seem to be working just fine with no negative side effects.
Til then, I'll fake my good mood til it becomes true.
Personally, I can not recommend this bcp to anyone who may be sensitive to taking drugs.
Who knows if being over 35 contributed to this result or not.

Update - Yasmin Birth Control - Side effects, already?
I've been on this pill a week now, and although I like the very noticeable "barely there" womanhood gift, I'm already experiencing side effects or at least I think I am.
Coincidence? Your input would be greatly appreciated.
Recap: I'm over 35, have hypothyroidism, and 60 lbs over weight.
Aside from that I"m healthy.
In the past week:
-My breasts have been tender to the point of making me cranky all week. Sore to touch when in the shower.
-I've been crying way-too-easily in the last couple days. (Woes is me week or the pill?)
-I'm also wearing my glasses more often as I'm finding I'm slightly blurred more than usual.
(Maybe overtired?)
-Finding it increasingly harder to fall asleep at a normal time. 2-3am on a week day is not normal when you get up at 530am.
-Constant mild headache. (Due to blurred vision or the pill?)
So what are the chances that all this started happening the same week I started taking the pill?
I decided to do more reading on Yasmin side effects and keep getting bounced to these terrifying sites.
Ones that say if you experience one or more of the following you're at an increase risk of experiencing SERIOUS OR DANGEROUS SIDE EFFECTS.
um ya, remind again why I'm taking this pill?
At the moment I'm seriously considering not even chancing it and just stopping the pill.
Really is a little face acne @ almost 40 worth what could be long term side effects?
Can you just stop taking the pill or should I finish the cycle?
Now on one of these sites, it did say all women experience side effects at different rates.
Some right away, some in time, some may never.
Question:
Do I stop asap or give it this package to see if anything/everything subsides.
In addition the Rentiol topical creme and penicillin seems to be doing wonders.

Birth Control Pills
As mentioned before, as part of my treatment for my acne I've been assigned to take bcp's for 3 months.
I start them tonight. :( :) I have mixed feelings about being on birth control let alone and over the age of 35.
It's 3 months. I'll be taking Yazmin. "Apparently" this one is good for the least about of weight gain.
THANK GAWD!!! Cos I'm a girthy gal to begin with and working hard at losing the weight I put on after my folks passed on. I do not need ANYTHING working against me, well unless its a guilty pleasure comfort food. Oh Shut up. Don't judge me.
Pro's.
- I like the idea of knowing EXACTLY when I'm due for my womanhood to pay me a visit.
- Shorter cycles. Est 3 days, compared to the 7 I'm use to now.
- Helps Acne. (we'll see).
Con's
-Synthetic hormone in my body.
-cos I'm over 35 I'm now in the 4-10% of increased chances of heart disease, blood clots etc.
(Under 35 is 1-3%). Um thats a large jump, in my opinion.
- Stronger mood swings, more emotional.
Great I'm going to be a raging lunatic, like I"m not moody enough at this time of the month..
Just ducky.
I checked with my family doctor in addition to the dermotolgist about being on it, since he knows my helath history etc (hypothyroidism). He gave two thumbs up and said that I am as healthy as can be, aside from my weight. (obviously).
So that is it. I'm offically at my 3 pill limit + plus one cream starting tonight.
I just hope when all is said and done, that this hormonal flare up doesnt continue.
Fingers crossed.

Update - Adult Acne
It's been only two weeks since I started on the topical cream and penicillin for my acne.
WOW! The topical cream is amazing!!!
My face looks amazing! Getting compliments how I look like I've just worked out, and/or glowing a little.... well that would be the cream burning off the first few layers of my skin lol
Although I have to stay the hell out of the sun. Even when I wear sunscreen, shades and a hat, if I'm not careful I start to rash up a little... when these meds said "stay out of the sun" they were damn serious!!!
I start taking the bcp's very soon, and can not wait to see the long term results.
It wasn't til right now that I've realized just how self conscious I was about it. Now I'm smiling more than usual, not wearing ANY makeup and still look good (I still wear eye makeup) and I'm loving it!!!!
That's all for now readers, Happy Tuesday.
