For the first time ever in my life the thought of getting botox crossed my mind.
I'm fair skinned, natural redhead (although I dye my hair) and have deep set eyes, and my mum's skin, (and hands).
This past month, I ran out of my favorite moisturizer, at $36 a bottle (lasts a while) I had to use whatever else I had laying around until I could find the time to go to the drug store and pick up a new bottle this week.
I have wrinkles. The wrong kind of wrinkles. Directly under my eyes. Not crows feet, but sagging wrinkles.
When the hell did I get old?!!!! Seriously! A month ago, I had seemingly taunt skin with minor aging signs.
In 30 days, I've aged 10 years. I suddenly no longer look like someone who is aging well. I look tired, like I've smoked my whole life and don't take care of myself. WTH!
I wear sunscreen all year round. Yes I actually do. I've had a 1/2 a dozen 2nd & 3rd degree burns in my young life, so there is no more screwing around with my skin. I've been taking care of it, covering up etc and now it doesn't show. I have a feeling that moisturize I've been using is really some kind of miracle youth cream. 'note to self, buy the local store out of stock completely, immediately.'
Trixéra+ Sélectiose® Emollient Cream
(Eau Thermale Avene Line).
Anyway, back on topic. For the first time ever, I looked at myself in the mirror last night after my shower, and thought, 'shit! my eye lids are going to end up being those heavy sagging lids... hmmmm wonder if botox can take care of those weird wrinkles, and getting a eye lid lift looks like a serious possibility in my coming years...I wonder how much it really costs and recovery time' . That's a lot to have run through your brain in a split second. Which means I'm probably more likely to be taking this much more serious as a course of action, rather than a passing thought.
I'm all for growing old gracefully, I was well on my way. I've never judged anyone for getting a face lift, eye work, botox etc.. however I did think it was a little vain. It doesn't inconvenience me any, so what do I really care what another person does with their body. Of course this is just the beginning.
I'm going to research the crap out of this. I know my dermatologist preforms botox injections, and we touched base on it once in passing.
Regardless what I decide on, my biggest concern is that I do not want to look plastic. Look at Leann Miller (Dallas Greens wife). WTH is with her face? She's under 30, I think. If I will look natural and just enhance what I already have without looking fake, I think I'll do it. Maybe a birthday present to myself for my 40th?
Maybe. Shit Botox, really?
This is a little extreme, even for me. I guess I just learned that about myself.
Growing older and looking graceful is actually pretty damn important to me.
A side note thought while writting this... I wonder how much my current weight is playing a part in my facial appearance? You gain weight in the face too, it would only make sense that it would change...some.
Google images of the following women.
Jane Fonda
Frederique Van Der Wal
Lauren Hutton _has been one of my favorite models growing up.
Sandra Bullock - yes she's not over 50, but you know she's going to age amazingly
Linda Evangelista - my favorite chameleon.
Angie Everhart
Julie Ann Moore. (I've been told I resemble when I leave my hair red - I have her eyes, mouth and skin tone...until recently)
They have all grown older with style and grace. I wonder if/how many have had minor work done?

Great post. I really do need the name of that moisturizer ASAP! As far as Botox, as time goes by, it seems to get better and safer. I am sure that you are beautiful, but I have a friend who went to Shape Med Wellness in Atlanta who came away looking very natural. She had her lips and crows done. I just believe that some go too far and get that plastic look that you refer to.
ReplyDeleteSamuel James - The mositerizer if from this line.
ReplyDeleteThey have an amazing line to suit each person's needs. I swear by it.
Trixéra+ Sélectiose® Emollient Cream
(Eau Thermale Avene Line).
It seems like every day I look a lot older as well. I wonder if it slows down after a point? I hope so.
ReplyDeleteI am fortunate enough that I do VERY little in the way of skin maintainence. I have been asked to show ID all the way into my late 30s!
ReplyDeleteI've never smoked and I don't avoid the sun, but I don't worship it like I did when I was young.
My Dad had an eyelid lift... I hope I don't have the need. If I can lose weight like I need to, I might go back to looking younger again....
In the meanwhile-- no to Botox... too scary...
Thanks Kas.. I hate you just a little now. ;-) (said with love of course)
ReplyDeleteI read into the botox a little today, and think I will try losing some weight and using eye creams etc for a bit before resorting to botox.
It's reasonably affordable though (per said internetz) I'm sure some of it may even be elidgable to be covered by msp.
Although I do see an eyelid lift in the next 10 years or so..
wow.. I'm going to be 50 in 11 years. Shit, I better decide what I want to do with my life when I grow up.
Restaurant M - I bet you look great.
ReplyDeleteDid you get a chance to watch the video I posted just for you boys?
****wow.. I'm going to be 50 in 11 years. Shit, I better decide what I want to do with my life when I grow up. ****
ReplyDeleteHoly COW!! We're supposed to GROW UP?????
LOL!!!
I was thinkin'--- maybe I don't have wrinkles cuz my face is so fat. Maybe if I lose weight, my face will look like a deflated balloon. Just sayin'.... LOL!
My apologies Botox Comment.
ReplyDeleteI saw your message, thank you.
I deleted it in error.
Botox Messgae said - Botox is very effective from time to time with no harm. (well something among those lines) again, my apologies.
I welcome all messages.
Did you see Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side? Holy schniekeys.
ReplyDeleteAnd did you see Kate Hudson's "work?" Why did she do that? She was so pretty already. Sigh.
Caleb
Caleb - No I did not. This might all be as simply entering my mid-life crisis etc... lol
