With the new changes my body is going thru (fuck you peri-menopause) my period has been acting up, weird, and inconsistent.
In the past few months something internally suggested to look into stop using tampons.
My first thought after a lifetime of use, was "what? are you nuts?!"
When I googled my options, Diva Cups were the first to pop up. I read, and read, and reaaaaaaaad. Watched a lot of Y0uTube videos of how-to, pro's and con's etc. Surveyed women on f@cebook for their age, internal health, reasons, their pro/con list etc.
What I've learned, no matter the age, country, or reason why they started using any variety of the period cups, was they are awesome.
Con's and Pro's:
Con's:
The con's were consistent across the board. The learning curve with insertion. Making sure its sealed.
Not one person got it on the first try. It takes roughly 1-2 cycles to get it right... .
Pro's:
One they got the learning curve down. THEY LOVED THE CUP! period.
Only have to change it once every 8-12 hours. Can sleep in it.
No risk of TSS (toxic shock syndrome).
Way less odor, if any at all... This surprised me to hear. I would have thought the opposite.
The cup allows you to measure your flow. This is important for any women who has to discuss any range of female issues with her doctor.
Con & Pro:
At first the $40 price tag seems like a con.
After you get the insertion down like a champ, it's quickly converted to pro! if used, and cared for correctly, you made only ever need to purchase 1-2 of them ever. Of course that excludes losing them, pets chewing them etc. That compared to the amount of money spent monthly on tampons, pads, etc. can range from anywhere to $10-$30 a month depending on different needs for each woman.
That's a lot of savings.
Excited and nervous to use my new diva cup. They come in two sizes and colours.
Size 1 is pink. This is for anyone under the age of 30, and has NOT had kids.
Size 2 is blue. This is for anyone over the age of 30. Having had kids or not.
This is because after 30 our hips and pelvis naturally widen. This is important when making sure you diva cup will be secure and not leak.
Today is my first day of using my cup. I have the day, perfect timing.
I thought at glance, the tulip fold would be my choice but couldn't manage to twist my arm the way you need to, to insert it. I used the C fold. at first I thought HOW the fuck is this supposed to go it? its big!!! I had to shove it a little. I will be buying lube to help with that.
Once in, give it a little turn to seal it in place, and whola. A whole 30 seconds later it was in, and felt like NOTHING! I didn't think it was possible for anything larger than a tampon to feel like nothing. And my cramping subsided. Another pro. I don't know for sure that I have it in properly just yet .
I checked to see if any leakage has occurred. Two hours in, with a pretty heavy flow, and no issues yet!
If you're thinking about switching, do your due diligence. Talk to ppl. Watch the 100's of product review videos on this item. And if it doesn't end up being the product for you, its only $40 lost. That's 8 lattes.
Edit/Update: I"m on my second cycle using the Diva cup. Adding a pro.
My periods have gone from lasting 3-5 days, down to 2!!!! woot woot! Feel cleaner and healthier.
